If you have been told by your doctor that your vitamin D3 levels are consistently low, but yet you continue to supplement, you probably live somewhere near Seattle, and your doctor probably forgot to tell you one thing. Vitamin D3 is fat soluble!
Almost every day in my practice, I have to explain that if you’re taking your vitamin D with a big glass of water, especially if it’s only contained in your multi-vitamin, that you are most likely not absorbing much of it. Nine times out of ten I get quite a look of surprise.
So, if you want to increase your absorption of vitamin D3 from a supplement, make sure you take it with a fat such as olive oil, avocado, nut butter, or eggs if those are a normal part of your diet or consider taking a liquid form that is already emulsified in oil.
Namaste,
